A whole new approach

I have been finding it incredibly hard to motivate myself to write recently as my brain seems to have gone into melt down mode ever since the Easter holidays have begun. However I recently read an interesting article regarding an introduction to legal filming of a murder case in Edinburgh High Court.

David Gilroy has been found guilty as of yesterday, 17th April of murdering his former lover Suzanne Pilley, age 38 whose body has never been found.

The victim disappeared nearly two years ago after making her usual journey to work in Edinburgh. After failing to arrive at her desk it is believed that she was killed at her workplace that morning on May 4th 2010 by colleague and former lover Gilroy.

In a legal first, part of the hearing was filmed for television including Judge Lord Bracadale telling Gilroy his fate that he was to spend a minimum of 18 years behind bars before he could be considered for release.

It is the FIRST time in the UK that TV news cameras have been allowed to film a sentencing in a criminal court for broadcasting on the same day.

Described as a "deceitful and controlling individual" Gilroy was driven by jealousy to kill Suzanne Pilley, maintaining a front of normality whilst embarking on a series of chilling acts to cover up the crime and later bury her body at a secret location believed to be in the remote Argyll.

Gilroy has protested his innocence since Suzanne Pilley vanished, however on 17th April 2012 he was convicted of murder by the Jury following a four week trial last month.
